Coda is hiring a senior reporter to join our dynamic, growing newsroom of reporters, editors, multimedia producers, and videographers. Our journalists working across multiple countries have been recognized for their work on surveillance, disinformation, human rights, historical memory, among other interconnected topics, and have won prestigious awards, from investigative reporting to podcasting.
We are seeking a senior reporter who can marry revelatory reporting with vivid narrative writing and can locate important stories lurking within our coverage topics. We’re looking for a journalist with deep familiarity with Russia as well as the Eurasia region and a track record of producing complex stories on politics, global affairs, public policy, and technology.
This senior reporter will report on regional storylines and position them in a global context, and vice versa. The job consists of reporting concise, analytical dispatches, enterprise features showcasing characters and engaging narrative and investigations that are relevant for both global and Russian-speaking audiences.
Our stories pursue connections, complexity and nuance –whether on the Kremlin’s disinformation campaigns or use of the new technologies for authoritarian means.
We are looking for a journalist who has demonstrated a strong ability to identify and develop ideas for stories, execute these stories with deep reporting and probing analysis, while closely collaborating with team members, freelancers and publishing partners across time zones.
Most importantly, we seek a highly energized and self-directed journalist excited to try out new ideas and who shares our passion for highlighting important stories missed or dismissed by other newsrooms.
Coda is an equal opportunity employer. We are dedicated to diversity and inclusion and a workplace that centers these principles in our culture and practices. We look to hire staff who are committed to furthering these objectives.
Because our stories are grounded in global trends and our newsroom is distributed, international reporting experience is valued. Working knowledge of Russian is a must, other regional languages are a plus. Four years or more of experience in a digital newsroom is a plus. While this is a writing job, video and audio skills are a significant asset. Deep reporting experience in one of our coverage areas is also an asset.
We have described some of the desired qualities we are seeking in this position; we recognize that there are fantastic candidates who bring important strengths and valuable experiences that we may not have mentioned here. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
The job is remote-working, full-time, and includes benefits. All locations from Baltics to the Black Sea are eligible for consideration. Candidates should have full-time professional reporting experience. This position may require travel, domestically and internationally, when it is safe to do so.
To apply, submit a resume, cover letter, references and examples of your work to Anna Khorguani at [email protected]. We are happy to answer emailed questions but no phone calls please.
