Coda Story Welcomes Anne Avis to Its Board of Directors

NEW YORK — March 10 2026 — Coda Media today announced that Anne Avis, a longtime champion of independent journalism and public media, has joined its Board of Directors.

Avis has spent decades supporting journalism as a public good from local public radio to international press freedom organizations.  She has served on the boards of KQED, the public media organization serving California’s Bay Area, and Internews, which for more than forty years supported independent media in more than 100 countries. She currently serves on the board of Montana Free Press, an independent nonprofit newsroom focused on accountability reporting in the American West.

“What drew me to Coda is its commitment to looking beyond headlines to the deeper forces shaping our world—from authoritarian playbooks to the global consequences of new technologies,” said Anne Avis “At a moment when those forces are reshaping societies everywhere, organizations that connect the dots across countries and systems are more important than ever.”

Founded by veteran international journalists, Coda Media, publisher of Coda Story, is an award-winning journalism studio that investigates the deeper patterns shaping global crises—from disinformation and democratic erosion to the political consequences of new technologies. Rather than chasing daily headlines, Coda focuses on long-term thematic reporting that tracks how systems of power evolve across borders and over time. Coda’s journalism has identified the spread of authoritarian tactics across democracies years before it became a mainstream conversation.

“We are thrilled to welcome Anne to the board,” said Natalia Antelava, Co-founder and CEO of Coda Story. “”Anne has spent her career building the institutional foundations that allow independent journalism to survive and matter. That’s exactly the kind of strategic thinking, and the depth of commitment, that Coda needs as we scale our work.”

Coda’s investigations have received international recognition and numerous awards including the Alfred I. duPont–Columbia Award and the European Press Prize.

Coda’s reporting also powers ZEG Network, the organization’s live storytelling initiative. What began as a festival in Tbilisi, bringing journalists, artists, technologists, and policymakers into the same room, has grown into an international platform expanding to Amsterdam, London, and the United States.

“ZEG nudged me into new ways of thinking. It reminded me of a liberal arts approach to challenges facing us – drawing in people from different disciplines, geographies, cultures together to an off-the-beaten-path location, to explore issues and react together. The cross-pollination, rooted in Coda’s investigations, was inspiring and motivating,” said Anne Avis.

“Anne has been a thoughtful and consistent champion of journalism as a public good,” said Nicholas Dawes, Chairman of Coda’s Board “Her experience supporting innovative nonprofit news organizations and building the conditions for them to thrive will be invaluable as Coda continues to expand its investigative work and the storytelling initiatives built around it.”

Avis joins Coda’s Board of Directors alongside Nicholas Dawes (Chairman), Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, Liz Heron, Megan Price, Alex Jakana, David Carrico, Inga Thordar, and Natalia Antelava.
