Putin Accidentally Showed Oliver Stone Footage of Americans Fighting in Afghanistan Instead of Russians Attacking Terrorists in Syria
When President Vladimir Putin flaunted military footage on an iPhone in Oliver Stone’s Showtime documentary “The Putin Interviews,” he described the video as Russian “aviation at work” fighting ISIS in Syria. It turns out that the video showed American forces in Afghanistan.
The Conflict Intelligence Team, a non-profit which investigates military activity in Syria and Ukraine, discovered that the video showed American forces in Afghanistan. It is identical to a video of the U.S. military fighting the Taliban posted on YouTube in 2013.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded in a statement on June 21, saying that the Defense Ministry Sergey Shoigu had given Putin the video.
